Location. The Plough and Harrow Hotel is located in the suburb of Edgbaston, three miles from the centre of Birmingham, England. Birmingham New Street train station is four miles from the hotel, and Birmingham Airport is 11 miles away.
Hotel Features. Standing in its own gardens, the Plough and Harrow Hotel occupies a red brick building dating from 1704. Parking at the hotel is complimentary, while Internet connections are also available (surcharge).
Guests can relax with a cocktail at the bar, and order light meals and snacks from the room service menu. The onsite Tolkien Restaurant serves a wide range of evening meals.
The hotel provides conference facilities and can host wedding receptions and civil ceremonies.
Guestrooms. The hotel's 44 guestrooms are spread over three floors and decorated in a traditional style with patterned wallpapers and dark wood furniture. Amenities include satellite television with pay movie channels, direct dial phones, dial up Internet connections, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary toiletries.
Expert Tip. Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien, after whom the hotel's restaurant is named, lived in Edgbaston during his youth. It is said that local landmarks, such as the two towers of Perrott's Folly and the Waterworks Tower, provided inspiration for his famous trilogy.

From Birmingham International Airport (BHX): Distance to the Plough and Harrow Hotel is 11 miles, approximately 20 minutes' drive.
Getting there. A free Skyrail monorail runs every couple of minutes from Terminal 1 to Birmingham's International train station and the city's National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Black cabs are available 24 hours a day from an official rank in front of the airport passenger terminals. The fare to the hotel is approximately 30 GBP. Shuttles run every 30 minutes into the city centre. Buses link the surrounding areas to the airport. Prices are all subject to change.
Getting around. There is an extensive bus and train network in Birmingham city centre. The centre can easily be explored by foot.
